The emergency light is back on the Dodgers mound.
MLBCOM, the official website of Major League Baseball, reported on the 10th (Korea time) that “the Dodgers have suffered numerous hits in the starting rotation this season,” adding, “This continued this week, with All-Star right-hander Tyler Glass on the 15-day injured list (IL) due to back pain.”
According to MLBcom , Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said, “Glasnow’s injury is not serious and he can return to the rotation in the second half,” adding, “We expect him to return to the Boston Red Sox on the 22nd or the San Francisco Giants on the 23rd, just after the All-Star break.”
Roberts added: “It happened around the All-Star break. We were thinking about Glasnow’s innings. We never know when the injury could come, but with back pain, I thought it was a good time to put him on the injured list.”
MLB.com predicted, “The Dodgers will focus on strengthening their starting rotation before the trade deadline. They may aggressively pursue a trade for that.”
Glasnow is the Dodgers’ ace starting pitcher. Glasnow’s injury is especially painful because regular starting pitchers Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Walker Buehler are out with injuries.
Glasnow is 8-5 with a 3.47 ERA in 18 appearances this season and tops the NL with 143 strikeouts.
Of course, it’s not a major injury, so he’s likely to return soon, but Glasnow is a concern for the Dodgers because he’s a player with weak durability due to frequent injuries.
Meanwhile, Glasnow signed a five-year, $136.5 million extension with the Dodgers after being traded twice with the Tampa Bay Rays in mid-December last year.
