It’s a fresh start. ‘Captain’ Son Heung-min (32, Tottenham Hotspur) is off to a multi-goal start in preseason.
On Sept. 13, Tottenham hosted Cambridge United of the English League One (third tier) in a behind-closed-doors friendly, winning 7-2, according to Football London.
The match was played in front of a standing-room-only crowd at Tottenham’s training ground, Hotspur Way. Tottenham were missing a number of players for Euro 2024 and the Copa America, but fielded all of their key players, including Son Heung-min, Pedro Foro, Yves Bissouma, and Dejan Kulusebski. Cambridge began preseason training a week earlier than Spurs, but they were no match for them.
Spurs raced out to a 5-0 lead in the first half alone. Brennan Johnson scored a hat trick, according to Football London. Manor Solomon, who spent last season on the sidelines with a knee injury, also made an unofficial comeback, playing the full 45 minutes. It was Solomon’s first appearance since 2024.
Son Heung-min also warmed up with a multi-goal performance.
“Son Heung-min was also in fierce form, finding the back of the net twice,” explained Football London. Heung-min, who had 17 goals and 10 assists in the league last season, looked to be in excellent form in practice.
There were also some new faces, with ‘new boys’ Archie Gray and Lucas Verbal making their debuts side by side. Gray joined Spurs this summer in a £40 million deal, while Verbal joined in July after signing for the club in February. 메이저사이트 “Gray, who caught the eye in training, played at right-back in the second half,” says Football London. Berivald appeared to provide a creative presence in the center of the park.”
Manager Enzi Postecoglou continued to bring on new players in the second half to check fitness. James Maddison, Timo Werner, Oliver Skipp and Emerson Royale came on for the hosts. Jed Spence and Sergio Reguilon, who have been ruled out of next season’s plans, did not play.
Naturally, the younger players were given plenty of opportunities.
According to Football London, attacking midfielder Jamie Donley started at left-back, as did 2008-born center-back Junay Byfield. Alejo Velis and Dane Scarlett also played up front, while 2007-born Mikey Moore rattled the net himself. Spurs scored twice in the second half to close out the game 7-2.
Spurs will now begin their preseason schedule with a trip to Scotland to face Hearts on April 18th. On the 20th, they will face Queens Park Rangers (English Championship) in London, before traveling to Japan and Seoul on their Asia tour. Tottenham will face Team K-League on May 31 and Bayern Munich, where Kim Min-jae plays, on June 3.
