Top pitching prospect Jun-seok Shim (20) has been traded from the Pittsburgh Pirates to the Miami Marlins.
The Pittsburgh organization announced the trade on Wednesday (July 31), sending infielder Jun-seok Shim and outfielder Garrett Forrester to Miami in exchange for outfielder Brian De La Cruz.
Cruz is a power hitter who has hit .245 with 18 home runs and 51 RBIs in the MLB this season, and Pittsburgh appears to have given up ‘future power’ in exchange for ‘present power’.
Right-handed pitcher Shim Jun-seok joined Pittsburgh in January 2023, just before his graduation from Duksugo High School, for a one-year, $750,000 contract.
He dominated Korean high school baseball with a fastball in the 150-kilometer range, and after receiving interest from many big league clubs, he went directly to the American professional baseball league.
Once in the U.S., he struggled to showcase his skills.
He went winless in four minor league rookie games last year, pitching eight innings with a 3.38 ERA, and hasn’t appeared in a game this season due to a right shoulder injury.
“He is currently on the 60-day disabled list,” CBS Sports said, adding, ”He has a good physical condition, but he is not physically able to keep up.” 토토사이트
