Small 6/Big 6 Side Bet Now Common In Macau Casinos

Fresh side betting options for baccarat play, known as “Small 6/Big 6” introduced to the Macau market, are now widespread across all major properties pushed by six casino operators across Kotai and downtown Macau following GGRAsia’s recent site confirmation.

The Small 6/Big 6, a variant of the Lucky Six seen in Macau casinos, pays a 22 to 1 if the winning ‘banker’ with a face value of 6 consists of two cards. Side bets pay a 50 to 1 if the winning ‘banker’ with a face value of 6 consists of three cards.

Macau casino operators Galaxy Entertainment Group and Sands China were the earliest adopters of this new side-betting option. The two companies had already started offering in their respective accommodations by early May, just in time for the Labor Day holiday.

In late May, MGM China Holdings Ltd and Wynn Macao Ltd also began offering Small 6/Big 6 betting options in bulk and high-limit gaming zones at their respective casino properties in the Macau Peninsula and Kotai.

Now, at City of Dreams Casino Resort – run by Cotai’s Melco Resorts & Entertainment Ltd – Small 6/Big 6 Side Betting options are available on the main floor and throughout the “Qi Long” High Limit Bakara play area. Side Betting options were not available at the time of GGRAsia’s check in late May.

According to a recent site confirmation, Small 6/Big 6-side bets are also available on the casino’s main floor in Studio City, another Kotai property currently run by Melco Resorts.

Side bet options will also be offered on the main floor of Grand Lisboa and Grand Lisboa Palace, run by SJM Holdings Ltd., and in the “Poenix Pavilion” high-limit bakara play zone. This option was not available at the time of the visit in late May.

Investment analysts and gaming research analysts told GGRAsia that the Small 6/Big 6 bet option offers attractive payments to winning customers but is likely to drive up home prices overall.

A “Small 6” side bet, also known as a “Small Tiger,” statistically represents a 14.33% house edge, while a “Big 6” side bet, or “Big Tiger,” represents a higher house edge of 15.25%, said gaming research expert Ryan Ho.
