‘Last place’ Hanwha self-destructs, this time with ‘happy defense’

Hanwha lost 6-11 at home to SSG Landers in the 2023 Shinhan Bank SOL KBO League at Hanwha Life Eagles Park in Daejeon on Friday.

Hanwha’s defense was shaky from the start of the game. In the top of the first inning, Noh Si-hwan caught Guillermo Heredia’s hit with two outs and threw a one-base throw to first base. The throw fell behind, allowing second baseman Choo Shin-soo to cross home plate. Hanwha was down a run.

However, Hanwha immediately took a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the first inning with a solo home run by Chae Eun-sung. The team added another three runs in the bottom of the third to make it 6-1.

With runners on first and third, Kim Min-sik laid down a bunt toward first base. Kim Bum-soo caught the ball and tried to throw home with an underhanded throw straight from his glove, but it sailed over the catcher’s head. Han Yusum, who was on first base, reached third.

Han’s self-destruction continued in the next inning. With the bases loaded, Chae Eun-sung attempted to 바카라 throw home, but was ruled safe at home after a close call. The timing of the play made it worthwhile, but the outcome was disappointing. In the end, Hanwha was unable to turn the game around and suffered a shocking upset.

A “happy defense” is when you make a ridiculous mistake or an outrageous miss. Hanwha, in last place, was haunted by the spirit of happiness.
