South Korea’s Seo Seung-jae and Chae Yoo-jung attack during the badminton mixed doubles quarterfinal match between South Korea and China at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games at Musashino-no-Mori Sports Plaza in Tokyo, Japan, on July 28.
The mixed doubles team of Seo Seung-jae (Samsung Life) and Chae Yu-jung (Incheon International Airport), ranked No. 5 in the world, reached the quarterfinals of the 2023 Badminton World Federation (BWF) World Tour 750 Denmark Open.
Seo Seung-jae and Chae Yu-jung came from behind to defeat the world No. 8 team of Tom Zickel-Delfin Deloux of France 2-1 (22-24 21-19 22-20) in the mixed doubles quarterfinals of the tournament in Odense, Denmark on Monday (July 21).
Seo Seung-jae and Chae Yu-jung, who met Tom Zickel-Delfin Deloux in the final of the China Open in September and beat them 2-0 (21-19, 21-12), had a difficult start to the day, dropping the first game at deuce.
They were down 9-18 in the second game, but fought back to 19-19 in dramatic fashion and eventually won 21-19.
In the third game, they scored three consecutive points while trailing 19-20 to pull off a dramatic comeback.
Seo Seung Jae and Chae Yoo Jung will next face the world No. 1 pair of China’s Zheng Tsuwei and Huang Yaocheng.
Seo Seung-jae and Chae Yu-jung were denied a bronze medal at the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games by Zheng Zhiwei and Huang Ya-chung.
However, the pair will meet again in Denmark in just over two weeks and are eager to make amends. 19가이드03
