“What more do you need?”
On the 27th, the Seoul SK Knights professional basketball team held a fan appreciation event “End & And Story with Fans” with fans who showed their support during the 2023-2024 season at the outdoor set of the SK Knights Gymnasium in Yongin, Gyeonggi-do.
At this event, the top 150 most intuitive fans at SK’s 2023-2024 season home stadium were selected. SK players, including coach Jeon Hee-cheol, participated and held an event with fans to express their gratitude.
Coach Jeon Hee-cheol said, “Today was really fun. It’s been about three weeks since the end of the season, and my body was really sore for two weeks as the tension eased. But I met the fans today, and I still gained a lot of strength from seeing them. The fans who came today are the best for this season. “Thanks to the fact that almost all of them came to the stadium, we maintained 4th place in the regular league despite the difficult times, and even though the playoffs were disappointing, we gained strength from the fans who love SK today,” he said, expressing his gratitude.
Coach Jeon has been with SK for over 20 years, from active duty to front office, coach, and manager. Many SK fans who visited the fan appreciation event site wanted manager Jeon Hee-cheol to renew his contract.
Coach Jeon said, “I had a fun time chatting with interesting people at the table. There were many messages of support from fans in the back of my mind. There were fans who said, ‘I hope you renew your contract,’ and, as you saw earlier, people who said, ‘Sign a lifetime contract.’ “I thought that SK Knights and I were teams that received a lot of support from fans,” he said.
He continued, “I always think that I have to work hard for these people after the event, and I feel sorry even after the game. I may lose because my skills are low, but if I show that I am not doing my best, the fans may change their minds in an instant. The fans may change their minds in an instant.” “What you want is for us to do our best, but when we look back on the year, I feel like we did our best, but I’m so grateful to the fans today who told us a lot of encouraging stories.”
What coach Jeon thought about again was the maxim, ‘Professionals only exist when there are fans.’ He reminisced about the event, saying it was a fun time that did not require words.
Coach Jeon said, “In the end, I thought that a professional game only exists if there are fans. This season’s performance wasn’t very bad, but it was lower than expected. Even so, when I said sorry for the performance, he just said no. (Laughs.) ) I had a really fun time today, and what more could I need?” he said, thanking them again.
