Palestinians prepare for World Cup qualifying round in Malaysia

After the first training camp in Amman, Jordan, the Palestinian national team moved to Malaysia on Wednesday and conducted its first training camp at the second camp site on Wednesday. The PFA said that the team has started official training sessions to prepare for the World Cup qualifying match against South Korea.

The Palestinians, who advanced to the third Asian qualifying round for the first time in their history for the World Cup, will compete with South Korea, Iraq, Jordan, Oman and Kuwait in Group B.

In the third qualifying round, the first and second places in the group will go straight to the World Cup finals, and even if they finish third and fourth, they will be given the opportunity to win tickets to North Korea, China and the U.S.

Since the North Korea-China World Cup, the number of participants in the finals has expanded from 32 countries to 48, and the number of qualifications for the finals in Asia has increased from 4.5 to 8.5, and Palestine is also preparing with all-out efforts to overcome the scars of the war to step on the “dream stage.”

Palestine will play the first Group B match against South Korea in the third World Cup qualifying round at Seoul World Cup Stadium on September 5 and the second match against Jordan in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on September 10.

The Palestinians conducted the first training camp in Amman from early this month to achieve good results in the two matches. They focused on strengthening their teamwork and filling up the players’ lack of training.

The Palestinian national team chose Malaysia as its second training site.

Malaysia has a time difference of only one hour and a flight time of about five hours, which is not far from Korea. As the team has to return to Malaysia after the match against Korea to face Jordan, it also needs to adapt to the Malaysian situation.

The Palestinian national team will soon move to Malaysia for the training as a whole even if the players who failed to join the first training camp.

Their visit to Korea has not been confirmed, but the Korean Football Association (KFA) expects the Palestinian national team to enter the country no later than September 2, two days before the game.

Meanwhile, the Korean national team led by head coach Hong Myung-bo will convene on Sept. 2 and conduct its first training session at Goyang Stadium. Korea has selected 26 players including Son Heung-min (Tottenham) and Lee Kang-in (Paris Saint-Germain) in line with the September A-match schedule.
