The Korean women’s sabre team suffered an upset loss in the semifinals of the team event at the

Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games, ending their hopes of reaching the final.

The South Korean team of Jeon Eun-hye (Incheon Jung-gu Office), Yoon Ji-soo (Seoul Metropolitan

Government) and Choi Se-bin (Jeollanam-do) lost 42-45 to Japan in the semifinals of the women’s sabre

team event at Dianzu University Gymnasium in Hangzhou, China, on September 29.

The women’s sabre team won the bronze medal after failing to advance to the final. The team fencing

event did not have a bronze medal match, so both losing semifinalists received bronze medals.

This ended the women’s sabre’s bid for a third consecutive Asian Games team gold medal. The women’s

sabre had previously finished on top in Incheon 2014 and Jakarta/Palembang 2018.
